Final Major Project at College

Animals in Captivity
When doing my final project at college I was unsure on what to focus on. I was watching 'Blackfish' the documentary on Netflix and I was shocked by what I was watching. I decided I wanted to use this as inspiration for an installation piece of work.

I had visited Sea World in Florida myself and I felt a sense of blame knowing i had contributed to this. I decided to visit Chester Zoo to take some images of the animals in captivity but decided to focus my work on Orca Wales.

I used a small box with chicken wire on the front to represent the small confined spaces the animals are stuck in.
I used a bright light to replicate the lights at SeaWorld.

I then used a mixture of textile work and Lino Prints to create the work inside the box. On the prints I used the sayings 'There is no beauty in stolen freedom' and 'Why should I suffer for your entertainment?'
I decided to fray my fabric and spray red paint over to give the illusion of the rakes on the orca wales and blood.

I really enjoyed this piece of work and I am very proud of it too.
